Vet Care is important to the health of your Dane. They need to be seen by your vet annually. More often in the first year. How long your Dane lives depends greatly on proper vet care and proper nutrition. See our nutrition page for feeding recommendations.
There are three vets we use in the Fayetteville area. If you are new to the area and looking for a vet you may want to contact:
We have always been happy with the care our dogs receive. We use Dr. Wright exclusively for ear cropping. If you have any questions regarding cropping feel free to contact me and and I will give you any advice I can. I realize cropping is not for everyone. We DO crop our dogs and it is OUR preference. They say ear cropping is an art and not everyone is an artist. There isn't a more true statement in regards to a Dane. If you are going to crop do your research. You need a good vet and you have to be dedicated to those ears until they stand. If you have a busy lifestyle DONT crop. Dr. Wright has given us beautiful ears. Taping is just as important as the crop and we also have our ears taped in the vets office.

Dr Jonas has handled our dogs through the years. I have never been disappointed. This is the vet I use when there is something out of the ordinary. Dr. Jonas has a way of making you and your pet feel like family. I have left in the worst of situations feeling like there was hope. She is a truly gifted vet. Not only am I always more at ease, my dogs always seem more comfortable. She is a true animal person not just a vet.

Dr. Krivit is a vet I have a tremendous amount of respect for. She does my house calls and owns a Dane. She has the unfortunate job of seeing all the dogs at once. I have to admit at times I have a pack of hooligans. She has never been uncomfortable with Dane antics. She is the only vet I have had on the farm that will walk in and take control of the pack. She handles the dogs with confidence and professionalism which always puts the dogs at ease.
Trainers
Paula Thompson at River Run RiverRunDog.com
Offers a variety of fun classes. Great for puppy kindergarten and obedience. I enjoyed Paula and found her easy to understand. I've seen trainers that tell you how to do something but not tell you what to do if the dog doesn't do what you ask. Paula offers a hands off positive reinforcement type of training.
Bon-Clyde Bon-Clyde.com
Offers several classes from breed handling to advanced agility. Fun classes like K-9 acting. They are in the Sanford area and if you are looking for something fun to do with your dog or you have a puppy that needs kindergarten this is a great facility.
Puppy kindergarten is very important. It give your puppy a chance to meet and greet other dogs. It also give you a chance to swap war stories with other puppy owners. I am a firm believer in training. A well trained dog is a valued family member. An untrained dog is the unfortunate soul avoided and alone. Both training facilities listed above a very reasonable priced and offer times that work with any schedule. There really is no reason to not obedience train your dog.
